Ask what 800G describes
A headline may describe one link or the combined capacity of several ports. Before comparing products, distinguish the cage, logical ports, and lane structure, then identify the protocol and speed mode for each link.
The connector is only the start
A shared connector outline can still hide differences in lanes, cooling, and host requirements. Optical links also depend on fiber medium, connector, polarity, and loss. Neither OSFP nor 800G alone is a compatibility decision.
Use a complete link record
Record both devices, both modules, cable part number, length, port settings, software versions, and test results. Compare these fields before evaluating bandwidth and distance, ruling out mismatched protocols, connectors, and cooling formats first.
